Redevelopment of the \u201cFalcata zone\u201d in Messina, a sickle-shaped peninsula that encloses the port and divides the Ionian coastline of Messina into two parts.
\nOriginally a bastion for the city\u2019s defense, the site is the founding and generative place of the toponym of the city\u2019s first Greek name, Zancle (Sickle). It was initially a sacred and spiritual place, later becoming a port defense fortress and a point of control over the city.
\nOver time, various industrial activities settled there (coastal fuel depot, shipyards, manufacturing industries, municipal waste incinerator), resulting in increasing degradation and abandonment.
\nThe goal is to clear and remediate the entire area in order to return it to primarily urban functions that respect the environment, archaeology, and monuments, while safeguarding existing nautical activities. Additionally, the project aims to reconnect the area with the city and to create corridors giving access to the sea and panoramic views of the city, port, and sea.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
