In every scenario, it is essential to envision a vertical layering of the project, based on an “active base” capable of generating diverse relationships, thereby shaping a design that can create a “landscape” within the Milanese urban fabric.” AF

The project for the new headquarters of Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM) envisions the redevelopment of a significant area of nearly 16,000 square meters, located in one of the city of Milan’s most rapidly transforming districts. The site currently features three distinct building typologies—the office block housing part of ATM’s offices, the historic building, and the large shed complex occupying a substantial portion of the plot—which together cover the majority of the land area. The site fronts three streets: Viale Monte Rosa, Via Tempesta, and Via Mosè Bianchi. Each of these façades presents entirely different characteristics, which the proposed project seeks to engage with in order to define differentiated relationships with the public realm. Indeed, the relationship with the city is one of the key guiding principles for the new volumes of a company for which citizen engagement is fundamental. While both Viale Monte Rosa and Via Tempesta are characterized by wide sections with generous sidewalks, Via Mosè Bianchi is considered a secondary street. For this reason, the project proposes locating the main entrance on Via Tempesta, a central point within the site and therefore easily accessible from all new office areas. Additionally, Via Tempesta enjoys excellent connectivity to the public transport system and high visibility from Piazzale Fratelli Zavattari, and consequently from the external ring road, a major traffic artery. On Viale Monte Rosa, vehicular entrances will be retained, while Via Mosè Bianchi will feature a secondary entrance, enabling part of the offices to operate independently. The proposal presented here includes several design solutions, allowing for the consideration of preserving the historic building and part of the sheds along Via Tempesta as elements of continuity and quality. The “final” scenario, which we identify as the most desirable, envisions entirely newly constructed buildings. This approach allows for the modulation of spaces according to ATM’s operational needs, fully satisfying them, while enhancing the area from an environmental and landscape perspective, and offering greater flexibility in the use of both office and service/multi-functional spaces. The primary design constraint adopted is the creation of a continuous street frontage across the entire site, a requirement that the Milan General Town Plan (PGT) considers essential for any new development volumes.

New ATM Headquarters Address: 89 Via Monte Rosa, Milan (MI), Italy Program: The project for the new headquarters of Azienda Trasporti Milanesi involves the redevelopment of a significant area of nearly 16,000 square meters, located in one of the most … Continue reading →

[7,10
591,1271,942,592,1517,815,968,593,689
post-9667","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cities-landscape","category-directional","tag-ceramic","tag-city","tag-directional","tag-glass","tag-green-areas","tag-italy","tag-masterplan","tag-milan","tag-redevelopment","siglaprog-cmah
["GET
