“
The challenge of the project is to stage a very various and complex program in an almost untouchable and already well-characterized volume, yet providing new ways of thinking a luxury hotel in the center of Florence.” AF
This project concerns the rehabilitation of a former convent into a luxury hotel. The building is located in Florence, a few minutes away from Ponte Vecchio, and very near the Boboli Gardens, in the city center. The place has a rich and ancient history. The buildings were originally a set of two convents (San Girolamo and San Francesco, built in the 16th century) with large gardens. One of the two convents was later turned into military barracks.
The complex is classified as an historic monument.
The challenge of the project is to stage a very various and complex program in an almost untouchable and already well-characterized volume, yet providing new ways of thinking a luxury hotel in the center of Florence: highlighting the spatial organization, the alternation of full and empty spaces, the presence of internal courtyards and all the passages and connections between the building, the arcades and the garden.
