AREA

Together with 5+1AA which changed its denomination in 2017 into Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia, Alfonso Femia, architect of the Marseille Docks, is in France. Here, in addition to the redevelopment of the symbol of Marseille, he has also restarted the debate around matter, professions to not miss, belonging, the dialog with the city, the mediterranean writings and the importance of discovery and wonder as a device for sharing architecture. Matter is the empathic dimension through which to speak to people of architecture. (Slow) time, the value to be recovered. Architecture must belong to everyone and it must be “public”.
Area tells the journey within the Docks, that have represented the starting point of the dialog with France for five years and through which Alfonso Femia and his Atelier(s) have established a continuous relationship for over ten years under the vision of a European-Mediterranean future, where the two countries, Italy and France and the Mare Nostrum that unites them with the Alps, are the only “place” from which one can restart a Mediterranean “renaissance”.
