MAPI – TRAINING AND RESEARCH CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF ANNECY / COMPETITION WINNERAtelier(s) Alfonso Femia wins the international competition for the realization of the MAPI - training and research center - and its surrounding urban context, within the Annecy university campus.
"We are particularly proud of this project, an architecture that wants to be a point of reference and, at the same time, a place for work and study that does not overwhelm its users. This research for authenticity has been the guiding principle of our projects in recent years, but today it becomes a mandatory requirement for everyone. Places for teaching and learning are essential for the development of a social and cultural observation, for the creation of a society that finally recovers, among its priorities, the environment, and nature in harmony with science and technology. So, the MAPI in Annecy is, for us, not only the symbol of a post-pandemic future, but of a new era." AF
Annecy’s MAPI will have an important role, not only for its function, but for having imagined, at different scales, a system both porous and permeable with the context, leading to the creation of a university building that is formative in all its spaces, for its ability to be an integral part of the territory and making all the surrounding areas a physical and perceptive part of the different educational and convivial spaces.
We wanted to be courageous and propose a generous building in its open, active and traversable ground floor, in its relationship with the road, in its internal courtyard, in the square in front which connects to the system of access spaces of the other buildings. The responsibility of bringing the environment into the building, the generosity of eliminating boundaries from future space, are concepts that are necessary now more than ever.
