Riccardo Sirotti speaks of Raimondo Sirotti
(interviewed by Alfonso Femia)

The exhibition at Villa Croce in Genoa, on Raimondo Sirotti, a Genoese painter, occupied the time window from June to September, illuminating the dark time of the contemporary pandemic. In this video, his son Riccardo tells us about the stories, the moments of dialogue between father and son. He speaks about the mixture of colors and the light vibrations in the artist's studio.
At times one can imagine the painter moving between one painting and another and perceive his impatience in having to confine the emotion of the moment and occasion. The titles attributed to the pictorial narratives are so full of visual intention that they are themselves minimal prose, art forms juxtaposed with art.
"The inside line "
"Inner gardens"
"I see green"
"The chestnut: like large dripping leaves on the sea" ...

Alfonso Femia captures, through Riccardo's words, what is beyond the optical limit of the gaze, from the periphery to the center of the painting, the sensation, the desire within every brushstroke.
Imagination is the reading lens and the energy that animates the artistic moment. The color green, Sirotti's color, is declined in various ways, not only to experience its intensity, boundaries, and possible encroachment but to appropriate differences and the invisible. Blades of light installed in the paintings transform them into three-dimensional and dynamic representations in contradiction with the static and two-dimensional nature of the canvas.
Femia defined his work as a discreet rebellion, made of both the obsessions and the grace of understanding.
In his work you can grasp - Monet, the Grechetto, Discovolo, Magnasco - the great Masters to whom Sirotti pays tribute, the sense of belonging to the territory, the awareness of time, the dystonia between reality and truth, the narrative paths made to accompany your eyes inside the painting. In this video, the dialogue between Alfonso Femia and Riccardo Sirotti is enriched by the almost physical presence of Raimondo Sirotti.

Raimondo Sirotti
Deeply Ligurian, Raimondo Sirotti’s the pictorial soul (1934 - 2017), a master of the second half of the last century, who has always worked with light.
His works are “a dialogue between painting and light, and painting and darkness” (quote by Marco Goldin).
