“The roof garden, covering the entire volume, is highly important for the whole building, from the environmental point of view but also for the quality of use of the building.” AF
The project, which is part of the transformation of the former Bligny barracks in an University Campus- started 12 years ago but still not completed- has the objective of increasing the accommodation capacity of the structure for students and young researchers, obtaining 42 beds in the building of the former military canteen. The choice was, generally speaking, to keep the simplicity of the building of the former kitchens. The internal materials were chosen according to economy and caring criteria, obviously looking at the maintenance of the building, but also at the quality.
The roof garden, covering the entire volume, is highly important for the whole building, from the environmental point of view (insulation, energy saving) but also for the quality of use of the building. This roughly 600 sqm lawn-like finishing, completely practicable, providing a natural thermal insulation system, is also an additional quality and space wealth, within a context already characterized by planting of secular trees and huge open service areas.
