The Casa del Balilla is a historic city building, erected in 1933 to house the local branch of the National Balilla Organization (Opera Nazionale Balilla), located less than 500 meters from the central Piazza San Magno, overlooking the Bernocchi-Dell’Acqua gardens.
After hosting the ONB and later the Italian Youth of the Lictor (Gioventù Italiana del Littorio), following the fall of Fascism, the building was used for local schools and sports associations before eventually being abandoned.
The project described here aims at the architectural and functional restoration of the building, preserving its material and compositional features and reorganizing its internal spatial layout, which had been partially altered by interventions in past decades.
The plan also includes the reorganization of the public space in front of the building, to fully reintegrate it into the city’s urban and social fabric.
