Re-functionalization of the Municipal Theater of Alessandria
©AF517
2022
Bringing the city back to the theater, making the theater a city: these are the challenges of an ambitious project aware of the symbolic value of a place where the Community has identified and recognized itself and of the regenerative potential contained in its restoration.
Few but clear, decisive and coherent actions outline the proposal: the formation of an open backdrop and a dynamic parterre, the conversion of the galleries into hybrid and reconfigurable places, the redesign of the foyer through a suspended promenade that puts spaces and functions back into dialogue. The theater hall becomes the pivot of a fluid, chronotopic system, in which individual rooms are converted to mixed uses, turning on throughout the days and seasons like the lights of a vibrant city.

We need to remove this mask made of conventions and words emptied of their meaning and abandon an opportunistic way of looking at the world.
We are at a crossroads: architecture must take responsibility for the environment. Sustainability needs to be handled and designed with care.
