Re-functionalization of the Municipal Theater of Alessandria
©AF517
2022
Bringing the city back to the theater, making the theater a city: these are the challenges of an ambitious project aware of the symbolic value of a place where the Community has identified and recognized itself and of the regenerative potential contained in its restoration.
Few but clear, decisive and coherent actions outline the proposal: the formation of an open backdrop and a dynamic parterre, the conversion of the galleries into hybrid and reconfigurable places, the redesign of the foyer through a suspended promenade that puts spaces and functions back into dialogue. The theater hall becomes the pivot of a fluid, chronotopic system, in which individual rooms are converted to mixed uses, turning on throughout the days and seasons like the lights of a vibrant city.

Marseille is one of the major european cities undergoing great transformation, it is a city that develops itself from south to north with the idea of regaining its territory.
The project of the International City is located in an area that connects the historic city and a part of the city that is now under development where different urban, social and human characters appear for the first time: the urban texture, the verticality of the towers, the seafront with the port.
Everything is transformed: the ways of living, the ways of meeting each other, this is the ideal place for the creation of a place for training and future the International City.

Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia presents the project – developed for the competition organized by Fendi – for the new center of excellence in Florence and image of the Atelier(s)’ founding principles: responsibility in the relationship between territory, environment, work and production spaces. Light, matter, and human dimension.
The project is built through visual sequences, paths, and spaces. Each area, from the parking lot to the multifunctional space, has its very own relationship with the surrounding nature, creating a world suspended between the different land sections and the volumes that emerge from it.
“There are places that direct your gaze, guiding you in search of lines, and traces, that are hidden or partially visible.” AF
